Per the organizations website, “The St. Louis Live Steamers is an organization interested in the construction of large scale model railroads, in steam railroad history and operations, and in steam technology generally. The SLLS seeks to share these interests with the general public and provide opportunities in the community for everyone to learn about steam railroad history and technology.”
We visited on their free ride weekend in June and had a blast. Located just off of east bound Highway 44, this location couldn’t have been more convenient, especially when returning from a trip to Purina Farms.
Park in the Kircher Park parking lot and walk down the road that sits to the left of the park. The trains are tucked back in behind the closed gate.
As a side note, we didn’t play at the park, however, the playground area looks great! There is a large playground with a pavilion (including electricity and a grill) and a building with restrooms. City of Eureka Park List
The train takes you on a 5 minute ride around the back portion of the park grounds, among the frisbee golf course. Be aware that you sit atop a baseball dugout type bench and put your feet on top of wooden rails. There are no seatbelts or restraints so hold on to your littles and keep your feet off the tracks.
We had a great time here and will definitely be back! Such a unique experience!
Here are the upcoming free ride days: 7/23/16, 8/20/16, 9/10/16 (Eureka Days) and 10/8/16
