Wapelhorst Park, a 78 acre park, is loaded with amenities including an aquatic center, 4 softball fields, 2 soccer fields, 2 tennis courts, 3 picnic shelters, 2 sand volleyball courts, paved hike/bike trail, small fishing lake, concession stand (with restrooms open April 1 – November 14) and year round restrooms in the Gould Building.  The Gould Government building is located next to the playground area.

The playground area is set between two rentable pavilions with 2 play structures and 2 swing sets.  The flooring of the play area is wood mulch.

The older playground (orange) is semi-accessible with a ramp leading up to the lower section of the playground. There is a game of tic tac toe a “shake shake” bridge and money bar. The ladder leads to the two slides, a 360 degree twist slide and an enclosed tunnel slide.

The newer playground features various climbers including a rock wall, stepping stone stairs, a net, a climbing ladder and stairs.  There are three slides, two chute slides and a twist slide.

Adjacent to the playground, there is a four seater animal see-saw. I haven’t seen one of these, especially not in such good condition, in a long time. And boy did Clayton love it!

As I mentioned there are two swing sets, one with the baby bucket swing and accessible swing and the other with the sling seat swings.

The two rentable pavilions flanking the playground are both very large and would be perfect for a birthday party or family reunion.

Also included in this park’s amenities is the small pond and aquatic center.

We give this park a 5 graham cracker rating. With all of its amenities, the large play area that sits close to year round restrooms and a great layout for parties, this park is a must visit.
